A Unfortunately not. With new regulations, HSAs and HRAs must be set up in conjunction with a qualified health insurance plan.
Q Do all my employees or a certain percentage need to enroll?
A No. Any number of your employees can enroll and particpate, including ownership.
Q How do my employees take the ACA exemption?
A Please follow this link for current instructions. The ACA is new and the regulations are changing often. Please consult a tax account when you file your taxes.
Q Are there any restrictions on when my employees can enroll?
A New or existing employees can enroll whenever they wish. Please see the guidelines for information about members who cancel or go inactive.
Q Can my business pay for all or a part of my employees membership sharing amount?
A No. If you want to do something like that we recommend that you stop providing a group insurance plan if you are under 50 employees and have that option. Then give the employees a raise in the amount of what your contribution would normally be. Then present them with options such as the Liberty programs explaining what you're personally doing and why and allow them to make their own decisions.
Q Is this tax deductible?
A Wages are tax deductible to the business as a payroll expense. For employees the monthly sharing amounts are funds that directly pay the expenses of other members. They do not go to a tax-exempt charity. They would probably not be viewed as tax deductible. Please consult a tax accountant for further clarity.
Q What if one of my employees is a smoker?

A These are all problems that an employee would need to work out with our enrollment staff. For example, smokers who desire to quit can enroll. If a person does not share the same beliefs they are not eligile to join Liberty HealthShare. In the end if you give your employees the choice, some may opt for insurance instead.
Q What if one of my employees has a pre-existing health condition in their family?
Insurance companies are required to admit all applicants regardless of pre-existing conditions. Health sharing groups do not face the same restrictions. Please see this link for information about how Liberty might handle a pre-existing condition. Some employees may choose to purchase insurance instead.
Q Can my employee keep their membership as an individual if they leave my employment?
A Yes. They will already be enrolled as an individual.
